Interview with my mother

Technology issues

My mother is a senior lady with high problems with new technologies and products that have been appearing through the years, when she is using any kind of products she has to ask me or my brothers to help her use it.
It's not only because she is an aged woman, she also doesn't known Spanish nor English which makes it more difficult to her to understand some modern artifacts.
This are some of the questions I made to her after I tried to teach her use the computer:

Q. How do you see the technology of today?
A. It's very very difficult if you don't know the basics nor the language

Q.Do you see yourself using well the computer?
A. No, I barely can touch the icons and guide myself with colors and figures.

Q.Are you interested to learn about technology?
A. Yes of course technology makes peoples live more easy and comfortable , but I'm a little old for this.

Immigration policies

Borders open

Costa Rica is a fine country where immigrants are welcome to stay. Here there are any kind of immigrant legal or not from every part of the globe. There's a high percentage of illegal immigrants in the country, so one of the policies, is that all citizen must have and ID card,if not it is send to the migration building, and if it is a illegal immigrant they are returned to their original country.
Another policy is that when you are about to enter to the country you must show papers and registration, that way police can know if they are visiting or else.

Nanaimo Bars

A Canadian Dish

These rich, sweet, chocolatey confections are named for a town on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. As far as anyone can tell, the recipe by a local woman named Mabel Jenkins first appeared in a cookbook in the 1950s. Her easy, no-bake recipe for bars with a layers of graham cracker crumbs, creamy custard and sweet chocolate is now popular all over Canada and in the American Pacific Northwest.

Makes 12 big bars or 24 smaller bars

Bottom Layer

Unsalted butter -- 1/2 cup (8 tablespoons)

Cocoa powder -- 5 tablespoons

Sugar -- 1/4 cup

Egg, beaten -- 1

Graham cracker crumbs -- 1 1/4 cups

Shredded, sweetened coconut -- 1 cup

Chopped almonds, pecans or walnuts -- 1/2 cup

Middle Layer

Powdered (confectioner's) sugar -- 2 cups

Unsalted butter -- 1/2 cup (8 tablespoons)

Milk or heavy cream -- 3 tablespoons

Vanilla custard powder or instant vanilla pudding mix -- 2 tablespoons

Top Layer

Semi-sweet chocolate -- 4 (1-ounce) squares

Unsalted butter -- 2 tablespoons

Method

  1. Bottom Layer: Put the butter, cocoa powder and sugar into a saucepan and place it over low flame. Stir to melt the butter and blend the ingredients. Whisk in the beaten and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture starts to thicken, around 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the remaining ingredients. Pour the mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x9-inch baking pan and press down firmly to form an even layer.

  2. Middle Layer: Use a tabletop or hand-held mixer to beat together middle layer ingredients until they form a light and fluffy mixture. Spread the butter cream mixture evenly over the bottom layer in the baking pan.

  3. Top Layer: Place the chocolate and unsalted butter for the top layer in a small saucepan over low flame. Stir until the chocolate and butter are melted and form a smooth mixture with a nice sheen. Spread the chocolate layer evenly over the butter cream layer in the baking pan. Set the pan in the refrigerator and chill thoroughly.

  4. To cut into bars, first bring to room temperature, then cut with a sharp knife.

Why not at home

Video!
School at home

There is a constant fear in the mind of the parents, fear that their kids get hurt at school , an accident in the school bus , a professor teaching wrong values. We live in a dangerous country were kids get kidnapped, raped or get something stolen.
Parents do not take´s risk so they teach their kids at home.
In that aspect is safer but also not the best because at school kids stay at least 5 hours at school learning with a schedule and they can make socialize and make friends and be part of a system. Costa rica´s education is not bad at all , with qualified teachers making house Schooling is not necessary yet.

Community service

By Law

Students from college and high school are send to do community service to provide help to the public or a institution by force. Is often done by volunteers, but if the students are doing it by force it is not as is define.
Community service should not be force to the students to be done, only if it is for college because it is like a preparation for the job after they graduate.
For students in high school community service can't be force to do , students must have the initiative to do it if, not the work would not be worth, and students won't learn anything for the experience.

Longevity

Longevity can be related to long life.People believe that is related to a good diet and good health.Aging is part of growing up,that is the lost of proteins thorough t the years.A advantage of longevity is that may live longer and achieve goals before dying , and populate more the planet,
a disadvantage is that less people dies the planet gets too crowded and there will not be enough resources too fulfill our needs. To have a long life is very important to have in mind to have a lot of exercise and eat in a healthy way, its obvious that many people search a long life grew old having a hundred twenty years old cause people is afraid to die, or anything related to it.The thing is that in school teachers do not teach the nature of death in kinder garden, and it should cause dying is a part of life.

Intelligent animals

Animals smart or not

Animals are indeed intelligent beings, is a nature fact since the beginning of the species, to humans is something new and fascinating, this is because of human ego that treat other species like below human "superior skills".
Scientist are doing test to animals to proof or calculate animal IQ on monkeys especially , birds , sea animals and other kind of animals, the results tell that the smartest animals of all are the chimpanzees , then the dolphins, and the orangutan. One of the test they make is to see if they can recognize them self to a mirror , if they don't think is just another animals copying their movement is a proof that they are smart. To humans the most intelligent thing that a animal can achieve is mimic a human.
Animals can learn sign language , do maths , speak some words, understanding problems, with this is more than logical that animals are smart creatures and we don't need to mistreat them cause they are not only intelligent but also with feelings. Video!

To the smokers around the world.
Every year hundreds of thousands of people around the world die from a disease cause by smoking cigarettes. One in two lifetime smokers will die from their habit. Half of these deaths will occur in middle age.Tobacco smoke also contributes to a number of cancers. The mixture of nicotine and carbon monoxide in each cigarette you smoke temporarily increases your heart rate and blood pressure, straining your heart and blood vessels. This can cause heart attacks and stroke and it slows your blood flow, cutting off oxygen to your feet and hands. Some smokers end up having their limbs amputated.Tar coats your lungs like soot in a chimney and causes cancer. A 20-a-day smoker breathes in up to a full cup (210 g) of tar in a year.Changing to low-tar cigarettes does not help because smokers usually take deeper puffs and hold the smoke in for longer, dragging the tar deeper into their lungs.Carbon monoxide robs your muscles, brain and body tissue of oxygen, making your whole body and especially your heart work harder. Over time, your airways swell up and let less air into your lungs.
Smoking does not only affect people who smoke , it also affects smokers surroundings, causing more illnesses than a smoker can acquire. So make conscience and think about other people health.

The influence of media.

The influence of media

The media is an important issue, and people need to be informed to know whats around them, but when the media gets peoples mind fuzzy and consumed then we got a problem.People need to know what kind of media can watch, like news or educational programs that enriched peoples minds, that's the kind of media that is worthy, not the one's that makes people every day dumber and superficial.Kid's in a certain age like watching violent cartoons that only makes them aggressive and problematic, instead they can watch discovery kids.
For grown people that watches farandula news, caring about how certain celebrities dresses , they can can watch history channel , and learn about history, and about what happen to they ancestors.

Media have a high standard in this modern life that we have, but we need to use it wisely.
